Welcome to my website which shows some of my recent, and not so recent work.
I am a Scottish freelance photographer and writer currently based in Russia. I previously worked in Hong Kong, Japan and China, where I studied Chinese language.
If you detect a distinct Oriental bias in my photographs you aren't wrong. I make no apology for this because this part of the world inspires me.
At the moment I live on Sakhalin Island in the lonely Far East of Russia.
The photographs are grouped loosely into five sections;
| studio |
a mixture of subjects with a bias towards travel photography
|
| destinations |
images of China, Japan and Russia |
| documentary |
three galleries of photographs on special topics; Hakka Walled Villages, Beijing Hutongs and the old Yaumatei district in Hong Kong. |
|
|
| built-environment |
architectural and engineering images |
Publications featuring my photographs include;
The Economist
South China Morning Post
Financial Times
The Independent
The Times
The Guardian
The Observer
National Geographic Traveler China
